The picturesque valley of Dehradun nestles in the Himalayan range. It is bounded by lesser Himalaya Foot-Hills to the north-east; the shivalik Hills to the south-west; the Yamuna River to the north-west and the ganges river to the south-east. Dehradun is one of the oldest cities of
India and the Provisional Capital of Uttaranchal.
Dehradun is one of the most common city in Uttaranchal. It is also the capital of Uttaranchal. It is also been said that the ashram of Acharya Drona is also situated here. Legend has it that Guru Dronacharya considered it a place fit for meditation & worship. So, the beautiful Doon Valley was called Drona Ashram which means, ‘The Abode of Drona'. In 1699 Guru Ram rai who came from Punjab has made the temple the old GuruDuara is important in this city. For tourists & pilgrims heading for Rishikesh & haridwar, as well as those going to yamunotri-Gangotri, Kedarnath-Badrinath and Valley of Flowers-Hemkund Sahib, Dehradun is a gateway. Dehradun is the part of Garhwal Himalayan region, which was earlier known as Kedar Khand.

Sahastradhara
A cold sulphur water spring having medicinal value, the dripping caves and a refreshing bath in the Baldi River , all set in a breathtaking environment offer an exhilarating and unforgettable experience. Only 14 km. From Dehradun City Bus Stand, near clock Tower and connected by regular bus service & private taxies, it is an ideal place for family picnic.
- Tapkeshwar Temple
This cave temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is on the bank of a Seasonal River . Here on the Shivling, water falls drop by drop
from the lap of a rock and hence the name Tapkeshwar. It is 5.5km. from city bus stand and is situated in the Garhi Cantt. area.
- Laxman Sidh
12 kms. From Dehradun on the way to Rishikesh- Hardwar. The road is motorable up to the Temple. A large number of people throng this temple specially on Sunday. Legend has it that a Saint underwent penance at this place.
- Robber's Cave (Guchhupani)
An ideal place for picnic, Robber's Cave, is just 8 kms. Away from the city bus stand.
- Dakpathar
An excursions Yamuna Hydel Scheme, Dakpathar has emerged as a lovely tourist spot in the western Doon Valley . It encompasses lush green lawn and blooming gardens, it just 45 km. from Dehradun. The vast stretch on the Yamuna River and the serrated Shivalik range add to the grandeur of the place.
- The Great Stupa
The Great Stupa situated at mind rolling Monastery, Clement town, Dehradun is a unique example of its kind in the world. This magnificent stupa measuring 185 feet was inaugurated by his
holiness the Dalai Lama on 28 th October 2002 . It has five stories. Shrine room at each storey is filled with statues, paintings and other items representing the body, speech & mind. Stupa surrounded by beautiful garden is an excellent example of Tibetan Buddhist religion, culture, tradition, art & heritage, which is worth seeing.
- Sai Darbar
This temple is situated 8 km. from clock tower on Rajpur road. Every year a large number of domestic anf foreign tourists visit this temple.
- Tibetan Temple
It is next to Sai Darbar. It is a huge and colorful temple of Lord Buddha.
- Malsideer Park
This newly develop spot at the foot hill of shivalik is situated about 10 km. from dehradun, enrout of mussoorie on Diversion road. A mini-zoo with a children's park and lovely natural surrounding make it an ideal sightseeing.
- Lachhiwala
Lachhiwala is 22km. from Dehradun- Haridwar road, but 3 km. before Doiwala. It's a very beautiful picnic spot. Not only this, there are many other places wich are popular for their beauty. Like, Tapovan, Kansar, Ramtal Garden , Devban, Tiger Fall, Rajaji National Park etc .
